Spring is finally here again! RideShare Delaware is celebrating Air Quality Awareness Week (AQAW) from April 20th – 24th. RideShare Delaware is also holding its 3rd annual Air Quality Awareness Champion (AQAC) competition. The 2020 Air Quality Awareness Champion will be announced at a later date.

The Air Quality Champion is a business or organization that takes the initiative in doing their part to be GREEN and assist with improving the air quality of Delaware.  To be eligible, businesses must fill out quick criteria checklist. The checklist can be found below.  All checklists must be submitted by May 29, 2020. 

Businesses can self-nominate or be recommended as a prospect to be the 2020 AQA Champion. However, a viable representative from the organization must be a point of contact to be eligible. The champion will receive a trophy and recognition will be announced at a later date.  The 2020 AQA Champion will be announced through various social media sites and newsletters.   

During Air Quality Awareness Week, we are asking Delaware residents to try a clean mode of travel to work or campus. There will be a raffle held during the week. Residents must take and record a clean commute through RideShare Delaware. A clean commute is a carpool, vanpool, transit trip, bike, walk, or telework/work from home.   
As a bonus, RideShare Delaware will be holding a challenge at Earth & Arbor Day in Wilmington.   

  1. Pledge to take a clean commute at RideShareDelaware.org/pledge before Earth & Arbor Day  
  2. Register with RideShare Delaware and record your clean commute  
  3. Check-in at theRideShare Delaware at the City of Wilmington’s Earth and Arbor Day Celebration to receive your prize

AQA Clean Commute Days

The designated clean commute(s) for today is Carpool/Vanpool.

Sample Post:
Today is the first day of Air Quality of Awareness Week! And the first highlights form of clean commute of the week is…Carpooling! Find a carpool match with @RideShareDE   

The designated clean commute for today is Transit.

Sample Post:
For the second day of Air Quality Awareness Week, take Transit @dartfirststate.  And record your commute with @RideShareDE through their app or website.   

The designated clean commute for today is Biking.

Sample Post:
Bike to work or class today and record that commute through the RideShare DE app or their website.  For a bonus take a clean commute to Earth & Arbor Day and check in with the RideShare Delaware Team for a special prize!

Sample Post:
If possible, try and commute to work by walking! Better for the environment and get exercise as well!  If not try any other clean commute and make sure to record it through RideShare Delaware’s app or website.

Did you know working from home or “teleworking” is a clean commute? If you’re teleworking record it through RideShare Delaware. 

Join the Partnership

You or your organization can play an important role in reducing the impact of poor air quality by working with us to educate Delawareans about simple steps that can be taken to “Do Their Share for Cleaner Air.”  These steps, when taken by many people, reduce the incidence of high ozone days, resulting in a reduction in lung-related illnesses, lower health care costs, reduced employee absenteeism, and families that are happier and healthier.
