Bank of America Named 2019 Air Quality Awareness Champion

RideShare Delaware and The Air Quality Partnership of Delaware announced the 2019 Air Quality Awareness Champion during the Wilmington Earth Day Celebration on April 17, at Rodney Square.  Bank of America received the 2nd Annual Air Quality Champion Award because of their sustainability efforts, specifically in the area of transportation.  Some of Bank of America’s sustainability stand-outs include:

  • Registering RideShare Delaware members – 18 members logged their clean commute trip during Air Quality Awareness Week, including several telecommuters
  • Encouraging carpooling, vanpooling, biking, telework, and compressed work weeks
  • Offering incentives to employees that drive alternative fuel vehicles

  • Practicing energy conservation, including waste reduction programs
  • Providing on-site charging stations

Dave Detrick of Chesapeake Utilities, the 2018 Air Quality Champion, shared some details about the award and presented it to Barbara Kubicki, Procurement Executive for Bank of America.  An Honorable Mention Award went to the Delaware National Guard for their efforts, including providing electric vehicle charging stations, promoting RideShare Delaware to service members and staff, and creating a rooftop garden.

The mission of the Air Quality Partnership of Delaware, a public / private coalition of businesses, agencies, and individuals interested in clean air, is to raise awareness and inform Delawareans about practices that improve air quality and citizen health.  You or your organization can play an important role in reducing the impact of poor air quality by working with us to educate Delawareans about simple steps that can be taken to “Do Their Share for Cleaner Air.”  These steps, when taken by many people, reduce the incidence of high ozone days, resulting in a reduction in lung-related illnesses, lower health care costs, reduced employee absenteeism, and families that are happier and healthier.  For more information, please contact Randi Novakoff at 302-737-6205 ext. 111 or email

RideShare Delaware is dedicated to making Delaware a greener place to live and work by reducing the number of single occupancy vehicles (SOVs) on Delaware’s highways.  We aim to reduce congestion, improve air quality, and lower vehicle emissions on Delaware’s roadways.  We assist employers and commuters with finding solutions and using alternative modes of transportation.  For more information, call RideShare Delaware at 1-888-743-3628 or visit

Sharing the Ride from Smyrna!

We love to celebrate our green commuters!  This month, we’re excited to reward Louis for his continued commitment to clean commuting.  Louis shares the ride with a co-worker, traveling from his home near Smyrna to his job at Christiana Care in New Castle.

Every carpool counts towards improved air quality.  With just one clean commute, Louis and his carpool partner reduce traffic congestion by one car, take 70 miles off the road, and eliminate 1.5 pounds of carbon dioxide from our atmosphere.

Want to be green like Louis?  Email us at for a ride match list.

Already carpool?  Add a rider to your group and save even more!

Partner Spotlight: Integrity Staffing

Integrity Staffing

Since November of 2013, Integrity Staffing has been a Gold Level Partner with RideShare Delaware. Integrity Staffing handles the staffing for Amazon’s fulfillment centers in Middletown and New Castle. Specifically, during Amazon’s peak season in the fall, Integrity is charged with hiring and training the temporary associates to ensure Amazon can meet the demands of their customers. To achieve this, Integrity will bring in anywhere from 1,000 to 5,000 people to man the fulfillment centers, an incredibly daunting task. This large influx of people causes a huge parking issue at the Middletown Fulfillment Center, where the majority of the new hires are placed.
This is when RideShare works directly with Integrity. During the peak hiring season, we routinely attend orientations to speak with new hires about our program. We also work to ensure that when we cannot attend an orientation,  someone from Integrity can speak about RideShare Delaware on our behalf.  Integrity also works with DART First State to ensure that it is providing transportation option for their employees.

Amazon Middletown Employee Transportation Resources include:

  • Working with DART to subsidize the Route 47 to their site.
  • A commuter corner where employees can obtain transportation information.
  • Onsite amenities including: computers, ATMS, lockers and bike racks.
  • A four day work week.
  • Information at New Hire Orientations.
  • Hosting RideShare Delaware Events.

We applaud Integrity’s continued commitment to their employees and their efforts in recognizing the transportation challenges they encounter.

Are you looking for work? Consider stopping by one of Integrity’s recruitment centers to find what opportunities await you.

DART, Rideshare Spread News at 87ers Game

DART and RidesShare Delaware were invited by the Delaware 87ers on Feb. 25 to provide a table with transit information at their home game at the Bob Carpenter Center on the University of Delaware Campus. There were several individuals, who visited our table, interested in regular and intercounty bus service, SEPTA Regional Rail, paratransit and RideShare Delaware. This invitation was offered through a trade agreement between DART and the Delaware 87ers from October 2016 to April 2017. DART provided a bus wrap on an intercounty bus between Wilmington and Dover to the Delaware 87ers for advertisement as well as two bus shelters in northern New Castle County. As a result, DART received the opportunity to participate as sponsor of the Delaware 87ers for the 2016-2017 season through advertising and other trade benefits.

Partner Spotlight – Delaware National Guard

The Delaware National Guard has been a member of RideShare Delaware since December 2008. Throughout the years, RideShare Delaware and the Delaware National Guard have built their partnership through the continued presence of RideShare and the free benefits that RideShare offers the men and women of the DE National Guard. Just this past December, the Delaware National Guard moved up the rank of Bronze RideShare Partner to a Gold RideShare Partner, which is the highest partnership level.  The importance of this Gold Partnership Level shows that the Delaware National Guard is committed to offering and encouraging clean commute transportation options for the men and women who serve the National Guard. Danielle Martin, RideShare’s Onsite Transportation Coordinator and the Mass Transit Coordinator, has been a pivotal initiator of building the relationship between RideShare and the DE National Guard. Several initiatives that boosted the DE National Guard RideShare partnership are as follows:

– Encouraging and hosting Vanpool Formations

– RideShare and VRide presentations twice a year

– RideShare attends the DE National Guard Wellness Fair for all employees

– Monthly RideShare presentations during the In-Processing Trainings

– Promoting commute options through postings, emails, flyers

– Federal employees and state employees receive a transit subsidiary

The Delaware National Guard also received the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Certification for 2015 at the Major Joseph R. “Beau” Biden III National Guard/Reserve Center. The LEED Certification is one of the most popular green building certification programs used worldwide, that requires buildings to meet a set of rating systems that aim to make the building environmentally responsible and efficient.

RideShare Delaware wants to thank the DE National Guard for their continued and active support in their role for helping to make the State of Delaware a cleaner environment. Also, by offering the many free benefits that RideShare Delaware offers, the National Guard represents a strong commitment to the transportation needs of the men and women who travel to the different locations throughout Delaware. We at RideShare Delaware look forward to continuing our partnership with the Delaware National Guard through 2017.

Also in 2015 the Delaware National Guard celebrated it’s 361st year!

Happy 361st Birthday to the Delaware National Guard! We thank the National Guard, the citizen soldiers, and airmen for your service and protection!

RideShare Delaware Rewards Christiana Mall’s Employee Shuttle Riders

On Saturday December 3rd, the RideShare Delaware outreach team helped promote the Christiana Mall’s Employee shuttle. Earlier in the week, the outreach team dropped off flyers to the Mall’s larger employers to promote the shuttle’s schedule and inform mall employees that riders of the shuttle may be rewarded with prizes. From 7am to 9am, riders who parked at the Del Tech Stanton Campus and rode the shuttle to the Mall’s Panera Bread were greeted by our team members and rewarded with water bottles. Those riders were also given the opportunity to sign up for RideShare Delaware’s services .

Those who rode the shuttle and signed up for RideShare Delaware were put into a raffle to win a $25 Wawa gift card as our thanks for clean commuting to the worksite. The raffle winner was Corey Johnson, an employee at the Christiana’s Malls Apple Store.

The Christiana Mall is providing this employee holiday shuttle to help decrease congestion around the mall and enhance the customer experience. From Black Friday to the end of the year, the Mall parking lot is packed with cars and patrons all trying to squeeze in their holiday shopping. This leads to heavy congestion and scarce parking options for customers during peak shopping times. This was particularly noticeable on Black Friday when virtually every parking space at the Mall was filled (View the photo below).

We would like to thank Steven Chambliss, Senior General Manager of the Christiana Mall, for allowing RideShare Delaware to go onsite and promote this clean commute option to their employees. As always, we encourage all Christiana Mall employees and patrons to try to clean commute to work or to your seasonal shopping by carpooling, riding a bus, vanpooling, walking, or biking.

Join DART and RideShare Delaware in celebrating National Dump the Pump Day!

11th Annual National Dump the Pump Day to be Held on June 16  “Dump the Pump.  Ride Public Transit.”

National Dump the Pump Day is a day to highlight the many benefits of using public transportation.  Delaware Transit Corporation (DTC) announced today that it will join over 150 public transit agencies nationwide participating in the 11th annual Dump the Pump Day on Thursday, June 16, to encourage the use to public transit.  From urban to suburban to rural communities, public transportation is a vital resource to Americans.  In fact, public transportation helps to make a community economically competitive.

Sponsored by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), the 2016 National Dump the Pump Day is a day that encourages people to ride public transportation.  Started in June 2006, when gas prices were $3 per gallon, this day emphasizes that public transportation is a convenient travel option that also helps people save money.  According to APTA’s June Transit Savings Report, individuals who ride public transit instead of driving can save, on average, more than $790 per month.

Public transportation is a cornerstone of local economies in urban, suburban and rural communities. In fact, every $1 invested in public transportation generates approximately $4 in economic returns, powering community growth and revitalization.  Additionally, public transportation offers job access to millions of Americans since nearly 60 percent of trips taken on public transit are work commutes.

WHAT: 11th Annual National Dump the Pump Day

WHERE: Delaware Transit Corporation-RIDESHARE Delaware and transit agencies nationwide

WHEN: Thursday, June 16, 2016

So DTC encourages Delawareans to join millions of others across the country as they save money by riding public transportation during National Dump the Pump Day on Thursday, June 16.  Or if you are a frequent rider, take a friend along and remind them that using DART can save you big bucks if you “Dump the Pump” during your daily commute.

The Delaware Transit Corporation, a subsidiary of the Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT), operates DART First State.  For information on fixed route bus services statewide, please call 1-800-652-DART or visit
