Bank of America Named 2019 Air Quality Awareness Champion

RideShare Delaware and The Air Quality Partnership of Delaware announced the 2019 Air Quality Awareness Champion during the Wilmington Earth Day Celebration on April 17, at Rodney Square.  Bank of America received the 2nd Annual Air Quality Champion Award because of their sustainability efforts, specifically in the area of transportation.  Some of Bank of America’s sustainability stand-outs include:

  • Registering RideShare Delaware members – 18 members logged their clean commute trip during Air Quality Awareness Week, including several telecommuters
  • Encouraging carpooling, vanpooling, biking, telework, and compressed work weeks
  • Offering incentives to employees that drive alternative fuel vehicles
  • Hosting RideShare Delaware clean commuting events
  • Practicing energy conservation, including waste reduction programs
  • Providing on-site charging stations

Dave Detrick of Chesapeake Utilities, the 2018 Air Quality Champion, shared some details about the award and presented it to Barbara Kubicki, Procurement Executive for Bank of America.  An Honorable Mention Award went to the Delaware National Guard for their efforts, including providing electric vehicle charging stations, promoting RideShare Delaware to service members and staff, and creating a rooftop garden.

The mission of the Air Quality Partnership of Delaware, a public / private coalition of businesses, agencies, and individuals interested in clean air, is to raise awareness and inform Delawareans about practices that improve air quality and citizen health.  You or your organization can play an important role in reducing the impact of poor air quality by working with us to educate Delawareans about simple steps that can be taken to “Do Their Share for Cleaner Air.”  These steps, when taken by many people, reduce the incidence of high ozone days, resulting in a reduction in lung-related illnesses, lower health care costs, reduced employee absenteeism, and families that are happier and healthier.  For more information, please contact Randi Novakoff at 302-737-6205 ext. 111 or email rnovakoff@wilmapco.org.

RideShare Delaware is dedicated to making Delaware a greener place to live and work by reducing the number of single occupancy vehicles (SOVs) on Delaware’s highways.  We aim to reduce congestion, improve air quality, and lower vehicle emissions on Delaware’s roadways.  We assist employers and commuters with finding solutions and using alternative modes of transportation.  For more information, call RideShare Delaware at 1-888-743-3628 or visit RideShareDelaware.org.

Sharing the Ride from Smyrna!

We love to celebrate our green commuters!  This month, we’re excited to reward Louis for his continued commitment to clean commuting.  Louis shares the ride with a co-worker, traveling from his home near Smyrna to his job at Christiana Care in New Castle.

Every carpool counts towards improved air quality.  With just one clean commute, Louis and his carpool partner reduce traffic congestion by one car, take 70 miles off the road, and eliminate 1.5 pounds of carbon dioxide from our atmosphere.

Want to be green like Louis?  Email us at general@delawarecommutesolutions.org for a ride match list.

Already carpool?  Add a rider to your group and save even more!

Bike Rider Wins Ride. Record. Reward!

David Latchko works at Siemens in Newark, Delaware and rides his bike to work. It is an 8 mile ride, which typically takes about 35 minutes opposed to driving a car, which takes about 20 minutes. David has been commuting this way for several years now. He may not be able to ride his bike everyday but when the weather allows he takes full advantage of it!

Thankful Commuter Contest Winner!

In November, we ran our annual Thankful Commuter Contest to see why our registrants are thankful for going green and saving green. Our winner this year was Scott Christensen, who commutes to his job at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds with 5 other coworkers via vanpool.  On average, each person’s commute would be approximately 37 miles each way from their homes in Delaware to the Proving Grounds in Maryland.  This one vanpool takes 5 cars and 444 vehicular miles off the road every day!  When asked why they choose to vanpool, Scott and his coworkers cited saving money on gas, being able to live in Delaware and enjoy its lower cost of living, and taking cars off the road.  We applaud Scott and his coworkers for their commitment to clean commuting and look forward to having them continue their commitment in 2017.  We would also like to individually recognize Scott for his continued dedication to clean commuting.  He was one of the first registrants in our program and for several years has made it a priority to vanpool to work, even if it meant he had to switch vanpools and carpool to the pickup location during that time.  Great job all around!

Currently  she lives and works in the Newark area  which enables her to frequently bike to her job at the University of Delaware. On days she can’t ride her bike in, she carpools into work still saving her money  while still clean commuting. Your commitment to clean commuting is an inspiration Deb!

We celebrate our first Ride. Record. Reward! winners.

RideShare Delaware is pleased to announce the winners of our Ride. Record. Reward! Program for May 2016! This month RideShare Delaware launched its new incentives program that rewarded Delaware’s clean commuters.  Two lucky commuters were rewarded with a $25 giftcard from Wawa as our thanks for clean commuting.

Amy has been in our program for over ten years, and uses various ways to get to and from work. In May she used transit, carpooling, and biking to get to her job in downtown Wilmington. By using three different ways to get to work she was able to tally 157 miles of clean commuting throughout the month.  We thank Amy for her enthusiasm and dedication to all types of clean commuting

RRR - May 2015 Winner - KG

Congratulations to our winners and remember if you didn’t win this month, continue to log your miles and you might just be one of our winners for June!
